7th June 2010
To the Beef Producer-
How the years roll by.
2010 has seen the realisation of the effects of the global financial crisis. Rural Australia has seen a some-what delayed economic effect apply to primary producers across the country. Pleasingly, many sectors of Australian business and the economy have withstood the effects of a major global down turn reasonably well.
However the impact of high Australian dollar and a lack of sustainable stimulus has hit home hard in recent months for the Australian primary producer. Widespread rainfall over the Eastern States has provided needed relief for many, however nature continues to prove it doesn't always share well, when it comes to total relief from the effects of drought, or flood! Extremes feature prominently in our weather patterns, as they also do in our economy.
Costs have continued to escalate for our producers , without any major reprieve for those who rely on sustainable income from the global food market. No question food is required by the rapidly multiplying world population, however the economic status of many developing nations cannot afford the cost of necessary food supplies.
The roller coaster ride of the muted emissions trading scheme has done little to stem global concern for food and protein supply and most certainly leaves producers wondering where our governments are headed with policy on such topical subjects. Without some surety of policy from our governing bodies, primary producers remain in limbo, trying to second guess the future challenges for primary production in this country .
None the less, pessimistic or positive, Australia and the world need food. Recent falls in the value of the Australian dollar certainly are contributing to an improved outlook for the Australian Beef Industry this year. Australian producers are amongst the most innovative, resourceful and pro-active suppliers of food globally. We can hold our head high when it comes to sustainable production of food and protein sources.
Yulgilbar continues the quest for perfection in these tough economic times. We like many other producers, in the past 12 months, have seen the need to tighten our belts and "circle the wagons". However our objectives remain clearly focussed and committed to producing genetics that provide profitability and market suitability to our customers. More than ever before, is the time to focus on factors that influence the profitability of your enterprise.
At Yulgilbar we are "driven" by our quest to produce cattle that are commercially focussed and relevant to the modern times we live in. We continue to benchmark our cattle against the "best" in the country, and feel proud of our recent achievements.
For the last four consecutive years, Yulgilbar has been successful in winning the Santa Gertrudis Australia Association Steer trophy. This prestigious award recognises our success in prime cattle competitions around Australia against all breeds of cattle as well as our fellow Santa Gertrudis stud masters. Also in recent weeks ,Yulgilbar has again been successful in winning the Champion pen of steers, at the 2010 National Steer trial. Even more satisfying for us, is the winning of the champion carcass with a purebred Santa Gertrudis steer. Our 3 pens of steers all demonstrated their market suitability and performance by dominating the competitions ,winning 9/12 of the major awards.
We are taking a break from the stud cattle ring this year, however the quality reflected in this years Annual Production Sale, will reflect "levels not previously reached" with the depth and quality of genetics on offer on September 3. The long awaited release of the first progeny bred by Yulgilbar from Warenda Sahara(poll) (The Australian record priced Santa Gertrudis bull at auction-$80 000) is sure to attract attention this year.
In my opinion, Sahara is the greatest Santa Gertrudis sire I have had the privilege to be involved with in the Santa Gertrudis breed , since my first involvement with Santa Gertrudis cattle some 40 years ago. He is throwing dominant poll progeny, with outstanding performance, structure and breed character. A significant number of his poll sons will be on offer on Friday 3rd September.
Where else in the Santa Gertrudis breed can you purchase bulls by an Australian record priced sire ($80 000) and from females that are sired by bulls that have been purchased for up to
$40 000. These bulls sell unreserved from the opening bid of $2500.
Yulgilbar is proud of the recent achievements of our clients with cattle produced from Yulgilbar bulls. At the recent George and Fuhrman annual weaner sale in Casino, nearly 1/3 of the yarding were by Yulgilbar Santa Gertrudis bulls. These weaners sold to some of the top prices of the day.
We are committed to providing the most diverse gene pool of bloodlines available in the Santa Gertrudis breed today and continue to mate 16 Single Poll sire herds, enabling existing and new clients to source new bloodlines that measure amongst the best available. We believe we are offering seed stock that are unrivalled for back up and service. As always ,our bulls are fully guaranteed, semen tested, vaccinated with 7-1, 3 day sickness vaccine, peste -guard, botulism and vibrio.
The sale draft have been extensively measured, gene star tested, breed plan EBV's supplied , frame scored, fat and eye muscle measured and sensibly prepared on a corn silage ration.
To compliment the 80 bulls on offer, 20 specially selected stud females will be offered for competition, while 200 Angus/Santa cross females (majority PTIC to Santa bulls ) will be offered for your competition.
We as always welcome your feedback and look forward to hearing from you soon. The team at Yulgilbar look forward to seeing you on Friday 3rd September 2010 at the Broadwater Yards for our Annual Production Sale.
Yours sincerely,
Rob Sinnamon
