Sam Hordern founded Yulgilbar Santa Gertrudis Stud as stud number 13. He was at that time a founding member of King Ranch Australia and was the foundation president of Santa Gertrudis breeders Australia Association. Today, Yulgilbar Station is owned by Sarah and Baillieu Myer (Sarah is Sam’s daughter) and has been in the Myer family since Sam’s death in 1960. The property is now managed by Rob and Lorraine Sinnamon.

PROPERTY OVERVIEW : Eastern fall country on the Clarence River in northern NSW with 22km of double river frontage comprising fertile river flats, undulating pasture and some steep mountain country. Cropping and pasture improvement programs operate on much of the property.

PRODUCTION OVERVIEW : The Yulgilbar Santa Gertrudis Stud incorporates 500 breeders, while the commercial herd of more than 2000 breeders is focused on turning off approxiamately1000 steers/year from 580-720kg. A focus on vertical integration. Total cattle numbers 5000 head.

Farming: 1800 acres are farmed growing summer crops including Lucerne , Corn for Silage and Earlage, Forage sorghum, Dolichos Lab Lab, and winter crops including forage oats, plantane and chickory. 

HISTORICAL OVERVIEW : Originally settled by pastoralist Edward Ogilvie in 1840 as a 200,000 acre sheep station. Yulgilbar was purchased by Sam Hordern, who was one of the pioneers of Santa Gertrudis cattle in Australia . It continues under the ownership of his daughter, Sarah, and her husband Baillieu Myer.
